At over 100 years old, Mount Field is one of Australia’s oldest national parks – and a prime site to go and see the legendary ‘turning of the fagus’, the closest thing that Tasmania has to an autumn leaf display amongst its native flora.
While I was a little early for the full show, I did at least finally make it to the park which has been on my to-do list for over a year. An easy drive from Hobart, it’s possible to spend a full day immersed in the wonders of Tasmania’s alpine wilderness, and be back home in time for dinner and a warming glass of red wine by the fireplace.
